Machine learning for beginners
Monday August 15th at 11AM

In this COMBINE peer-to-peer tutorial, we will review principal concepts behind machine learning and introduce beginner friendly resources for getting started. We discuss navigating options for implementation, choosing an appropriate model dependent on tasks, and how to test, train, and validate a model. We will then walk through creating a custom binary classifier, from data pre-processing and labeling to training and testing a model using sci-kit learn. In our tutorial, we will demonstrate how to source and label images from Google, and then train a model to classify blood cells images between those with and without sickle cells.
No prior machine learning experience necessary, CoLab notebook will be distributed prior to tutorial for audience to follow along.
